“The Venue has several different performance and backstage areas requiring audio distribution, which the existing system could not serve adequately. The sizeable 100 x 15m foyer in particular, had poor sound reinforcement,” comments TM Audio project manager, Eric Rutten. “The Venue needed an easy-to-use zoning system that would supply background music, announcements, and live performances to various locations in the building, switching and connecting the main hall and the other exhibition areas, corridors, and dressing rooms, and which could also be expanded as the complex grows.”
The new iDR system functions as the heart of the sound system. Stationed at two hot spots in the venue, the iDR-4 and iDR-8 units provide signal distribution using a digital matrix and transmission of 8 channels of audio over CAT-5 cable.
“The matrix routes inputs to outputs at various locations throughout the building, which provide signals from all sources to be available to all rooms. For instance, an announcement can be audible all over the building, whilst a concert in the main hall can be routed to the lounge or foyer, or both. Also, a visiting PA company in the main hall can easily connect to the house PA system, or receive a tie-line from a DJ performing in the Postbank Lounge,” Rutten continues. “The new system allows the duty manager to easily combine, override and connect various sources and rooms, with added remote capability from the PL10, which allows plug ‘n play access for volume control in each zone.”
New Martin Audio speakers with accompanying Crest amplifiers were also installed during the upgrade project.
